The Booking Process

Please refer to “How to book”, click on "go to booking form" and complete it then click on 'submit'. In most cases you will receive a response within 24 hours.
Fixed booking dates are guaranteed on completion of the booking process. ie. you have agreed to the terms and conditions and transferred funds for the retainer fee. Once you have decided to book a consultation, its best if, immediately prior to transferring funds, you contact Suzy either by phone or by text to check the latest availability.
Suzy can always give you current availability. Due to the last minute nature of her work it is not possible to actually hold dates for any period of time prior to a confirmed booking. Her availability changes constantly with the demand from all parents in need of her services. She is therefore careful to maintain a fair and efficient diary for all families.
Don’t worry, just let Suzy know this at the time of booking so that she can help find a satisfactory compromise. In certain cases, She can arrange to bring an inflatable bed or, if you have a sofa/bed with some bedding this is sufficient.
A one-off postponement of your consultation is possible in certain cases and is subject to Suzy's availability. This will incur an administrative cost because you are, in most cases, essentially reserving many hours of Suzy's time. For more specific details please refer to the Postponement and Cancellation section of the Terms and Conditions.
Booking requests are accepted on receipt of a completed booking form only.
Yes, in most cases you can do this, as long as you send Suzy an e-mail request and book it before the last day of your existing text support. Please see the 'Options' section of your chosen package.
Unless you have got to the root cause(s) of the sleep issues, you would be advised to maintain your booking. An infant’s sleep can appear to improve over a period of time then it may well regress back to the original sleep issue. If you do decide to make a cancellation this must be confirmed by e-mail and the ​Terms and the cancellation policy in the Terms and Conditions applies.

The Consultation

Suzy does not advise applying the official, evidence-based ‘sleep training’ methods to babies under 6 months of age. Studies have shown that younger babies are neither emotionally, mentally nor sometimes physically ready. However, with 30+ years experience in young baby care, Suzy has created very gentle and more gradual sleep shaping techniques which help set strong roots towards healthy, longer term sleep.
Yes. If you have booked an In-home consultation of 20 consecutive hours or more, I will be on call to advise as needed.
Your infant’s safety is my utmost concern so I kindly request that you provide a good working baby monitor to hear and preferably to see your infants' every sound and movement. She will be checking your infant’s well-being throughout the night.
I always promote safe sleeping practices. My duty as a professional sleep consultant is to give you all the latest advice regarding safe sleep practices as provided by The Lullaby Trust. For any infant under 6 months old I would expect to be in the same room as your baby or at least have an adult in the room so that I can observe him correctly. If you do not want me to be in the same room as your baby and you are not with your baby too, then you will be required to sign a disclaimer to this effect.
As long as your infant has the appropriate pain relief throughout the sleep training, teething can be managed successfully and should not affect the sleep plan. For correct dosage I advise you to check this with your infants’ medical practitioner.
As a professional Sleep Consultant, my role is to inform you of all existing, evidence-based sleep training methods, from the most gentle to the more controlled. I talk you through the methods, how they work and the pros and cons of each one. It is therefore you who then makes the informed choice as to the sleep-training method that suits your baby and your family. I then coach you through your chosen sleep plan and offer you encouragement and support throughout.
This is not always an easy question to answer because I really do believe all babies are unique, but I can say from previous experience each baby’s age, circumstance and unique personality brings a different reaction. Some babies surprise me by adapting so quickly to the tailor made plan that the question I am asked from their stunned parents is “why did he cry a lot less than he usually does?” On the other hand, I will not 'guarantee' a ‘no cry’ solution as I pride myself in being honest with my clients and, quite frankly, some babies have stronger personalities than others and therefore like to make their thoughts well known!
I will certainly never force you to continue in your chosen sleep training method when you feel that it is not working for your values. I will, whenever possible, give you alternative options allowing you take a step back and go a little slower.
You will see some initial encouraging signs within the first few days. Fully established sleep 'habits' can take between 6-8 weeks. The key to success is your ability to maintain consistency in implementing the advice given during the consultation. Oh, not to forget patience, lots of it!

You are kindly requested to provide a bed or comfortable sofa for me to sleep whilst your infant is sleeping. If I am working in your home for more than 24 hours, I may choose to take a daily break and catch up on sleep or go out for a walk.
The clear advantage of having my 'on the spot' guidance and support, is that when an unexpected situation arises, you have me right beside you with my extensive sleep training experience. I have seen it all before and can tell you how to respond in unexpected situations. The average success rate for evidence-based sleep training is 94%. However, this year, when families have chosen to add to that my in-home support service (3 days and nights or more) my success rate has been as high as 98%
By getting to know your parental views, your baby's personality and your concerns, I can adjust how I coach you and your infant. I work with you towards the goal that you request. It is important, of course, that it is age appropriate and suits your infants needs and personality. So if your infant is healthy and feeding well, I will advise towards age appropriate sleep habits. Up to 5 years old, it is perfectly normal for an infant to need a parent to respond for things like illness, nightmares etc. but this is certainly not all night, every night.
There are two types of sleep disorder: The first is a medical sleep disorder and, to rule this out, even before you book, I ask you a series of questions. The second is a Behavioural sleep disorder which is where I have extensive training and experience (please see 'About Us'). My role as a certified, Paediatric behavioural Sleep Consultant is to give you the latest, evidence-based, scientifically researched advice whilst offering you support for the most intensive part of the tailor made sleep plan period. The full 'result' of any sleep plan does not necessarily happen in just 3 days otherwise I suspect my profession probably wouldn't exist as you would have worked it all out yourself. With, for example, the ‘Blissful Sleep’ consultation (2.5 days and 3 nights) I would expect to see the very first, small but encouraging signs in that time. It takes approximately a further 6-8 weeks to create a full, new and healthy sleep 'habit' and relies on a families ability to be consistent in carrying out the advice offered. As I am not with you for the full 6 – 8 week period, you are fully responsible for maintaining continuity in following the advice I have offered.
‘Failure,’ in the sense of the full plan not being suitable, has never happened because my advice is backed by sleep science and 30 years professional experience. Theoretically speaking, should there really be no improvement whatsoever after the 6 - 8 weeks, I would look at what has been done over the full 8 week period and, according to my findings, continue to work with you remotely whilst you provide a detailed daily log of events. I want your infant to have healthy sleep, just as much as you do!

'Milk Matters' - Bottle refusal

I generally allow up to 48 hours for your baby to take a bottle of at least 100mls from both myself and from one family member. However, if in the rare event that it took longer, I stay to get the right result at no additional cost.
No, I tend not to take on full care of your baby as I have noticed that when I do, some babies then only take the bottle from me and this is not the objective. I am there for the sole purpose of offering bottle feeds, advising regarding bottle feeding and keeping an objective eye on your baby’s well-being. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone from the family (father or grandparent etc) to spend quality time with your baby whilst you have a little ‘me time’.
Once you have confirmed the booking you will be provided with a short list of specific items to prepare for the consultation.
Yes, you can because I have a habit of saying that the choice is always yours, and its true. I offer you advice regarding breast and/or bottle feeding and expressing and you can ask as many questions relevant to feeding.
For your baby’s emotional well-being I separate the two issues. During a Milk Matters - Bottle refusal consultation, I advise that you maintain all your baby’s familiar sleep habits. So you will need to wait at least one week between the Milk Matters -Bottle refusal consultation and a sleep consultation.
I have a 100% success rate to date with bottle refusal bookings. I have designed my own gentle, intuitive method so I am calmly confident that I can get your healthy baby to accept to feed from a bottle. I feel this is the best and most honest 'guarantee' I can give you before I have actually met your baby.
This has never happened. I monitor your baby constantly to ensure there are enough wet nappies, your baby is alert and healthy. As your baby’s well-being is foremost in my mind, if I ever have any concerns whatsoever regarding her/his health, I would always share them with you.
